Binance Announces $5 Million Airdrop for Turkey

Binance has announced its intention to distribute BNB worth $100 to users located in the areas most severely impacted by the recent earthquake in Turkey. The company will use Proof of Address (POA) forms submitted by users from 10 affected areas, including; Kahramanmaras, Kilis, Diyarbakir, Adana, Osmaniye, Gaziantep, Sanliurfa, Adyaman, Malatya, and Hatay, to identify eligible users. 

Binance acknowledged that POA may have limitations and inconsistencies. But it’s the most effective method to locate potentially affected individuals. The total donation is expected to be around $5 million.

Cryptocurrencies have become an increasingly popular way to send funds during natural disasters, as they allow for quick, inexpensive, borderless, and transparent transactions. 

Binance has made a public donation address available through its Binance Charity and will convert all contributions to TRY and distribute them to a reputable NGO to aid those in need. Donations can be made in BTC, ETH, BNB, BUSD, and XRP through the Emergency Earthquake Appeal.

Binance CEO, CZ, expressed his condolences to the victims and stated that the earthquake has had a devastating impact on many people and towns. He expressed hope that the company’s efforts will provide assistance to those affected and called on other players in the crypto industry to come together to help in this difficult time.

The magnitude 7.5 earthquake that struck Kahramanmaras, Turkey and Syria has resulted in the loss of over 5,000 lives. The exact number of missing individuals is currently unknown, but rescue efforts are continuing in the hopes of finding survivors still trapped under the rubble.
